Old Fashioned Chocolate Chip Cookies

Yes guys, you can bake. Baking is different than cooking. Baking requires science, which makes baking "Guy Approved". As with any science experiment there are different ingredients that must come together in the right proportions for the cookies to turn out correctly. This week I will start you off with one of the easiest (and best smelling) cookie: the Old Fashioned Chocolate Chip.

Ingredients:
1 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup sugar
1 cup butter, room temperature
1 tsp vanilla
2 eggs, room temperature
2 1/4 cups flour
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup walnuts (optional)
1-12oz pack chocolate chips

Directions:

  1. Set out butter and eggs on counter to get to room temperature
  2. Turn on oven to 375 degrees
  3. In a large stand mixer, beat together brown sugar, sugar and butter for 3 minutes
  4. Beat in eggs, one at a time and vanilla
  5. Stir in Baking soda, salt and flour
  6. Stop mixer, add in walnuts and chocolate chips, pulse the mixer to add in
  7. Drop dough by tablespoon heaps onto baking stone, 2 inches apart
  8. Bake for 12 minutes, cool for 5 more then move to racks
  9. Eat warm, and serve to family to impress them
This recipe will make a ton of cookies. I divided mine up into three different groups: one for my family to eat, one for the church bake sale (my mom made me) and one for a neighbor who just lost his father. Everybody loved them and were happy to eat a fresh cookie.

Guys: baking is not that hard. If you have the right tools it is a quick hour to get them all done. Please look for a future post about kitchen tools that are "Guy Approved".
